The Quest

The quest for the perfect layout and design tool took a new turn today. I came across the most wonderful weblog entitled “Veerle’s Blog 2.0.” As most of my students and clients know, I’m very mindful of what type of sites I visit, and even more discriminating when adding a site to my list of links and bookmarks. Veerle’s site, however, is that rare moment when creativity meets function, and when usefulness lends way to enlightenment.

Veerle’s site is very pleasing to look, play around in, and learn some very sound design and layout methods. While browsing through a few of her categories, I came across a post where she mentioned her use of a CMS platform called “Expression Engine,” or EE for short. EE is a “modular, flexible, feature-rich” web publishing system that has nearly all the features I’ve been looking for in a web-publishing platform. Although I’ve only signed up for the 30-day trial (which does cost $10), I was impressed with the vast array of features this system has. Would you like to publish a blog? How about multiple blogs within the same site? Unbelievable! The creativity inspired by this one application reminded me of the day I first downloaded my first copy of Dreamweaver.

Don’t take my word for it, however. Visit Veerle’s site for another opinion that’s based on proven experience and a lot more creative skill than mine.
