Cup-A-Cino

Had a conversation with Eric at Cup-A-Cino, a local coffee house and venue for local bands and artist in September of 2003. Here is the journal entry at that time:

I just love this neighborhood! We discussed wirless things. He has a simple Linksys wireless set-up with a few laptops available for patrons. I also noticed a desktop in use for checking email and such.

As long as I entertain these thoughts, something (i.e. action) will happen. Today’s virtue message spoke to commitment. The thought emanates from the process whereby “great forces are arrayed” when one but commits to a plan or action. In my own journey, have I not reached further when I was committed to a particular plan.

And then I added these motivating quotes at the end:

. . . the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.

Looking back, I’m amazed by the difference of circumstances then and now. In 2003 my laptop was not up to the task to connect by wireless. By 2004 I had joined the Detroit Wireless Project and began promoting free and open source wireless throughout Detroit. I don’t believe I had a single Adobe application at that time (Dreamweaver was Macromedia and that was that.). By the winter of 2004, my computer crashed from the Sasher Virus, and I was left begging relatives to grant me access to their computers and Internet. <p/>

Man, I come a long way. Today I have the entire Adobe creative suite, a Dell Latitude 410, Dimension E510, duel monitors (17″ and 20.1″), an Internet lab to teach and develop in, access to commercial printing resources, and little time to get it all in each day.

The courier service consumes vast resources to operate, but in web design, development, and instruction, I have nearly every asset the business requires. How kewl is that? Plus, the joy I once felt at Business.com has come back to motivate me further.

. . .whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.”
